Application Procedures
Virginia Lime Works Patriot LimePaint is designed to be applied to new and historic masonry substrates. Do not apply on over latex, oil based paints, wood, PVC, varnish, or shellac. Clean surface prior to application to remove dust, dirt, grime, grease, or any other coatings or materials that may prevent bonding.

Do not apply if rain or precipitation is expected for 48 hours after application. Working temperatures for Virginia Lime Works Patriot LimePaint are between 45°F and 85°F. Do not apply in direct sunlight or on “hot” surfaces. Protect during and at least 48 hours after application from direct sunlight, wind, and rain. Virginia Lime Works Patriot LimePaint bonds best to porous masonry surfaces. On non-porous masonry, chalking may occur.

Application of samples is recommended, and finishes should be evaluated prior to full scale application. Allow 24-48 hours of cure before determinations are made.

Control the substrate's rate of absorption by misting with water prior to application. Absorption rate is controlled with it takes approximately 1-2 seconds for a droplet of water to go from "glistening" to "damp" on the surface.

Patriot LimePaint is supplied as a dry powder, pre-measured in one gallon, two gallon, and five gallon containers to yield full containers of paint. Add ½ amount water required and stir thoroughly using a drill with a paint paddle attachment or a wooden paint stirrer to achieve a thick paste. Then add remaining water to achieve proper consistency.

Apply with a good quality synthetic bristle brush (i.e. Sherwin-Williams Deck & Siding Brush 4”-6”) or roller (brush is preferable on porous and textured backgrounds). Alternate brush stroke directions between coats (1st coat horizontal, 2nd coat vertical)

Clean up
Tools should be cleaned (or stored in water) when not in use for periods greater than 15 minutes.

Coverage and Consumption
Coverage will depend upon the rate of absorption and type of substrate in which it is applied. Most substrates will require a minimum of two coats of Virginia Lime Works Patriot LimePaint. Coverage can be determined on site by testing the coverage of the material on the chosen substrate.

Protect eyes, nose, and skin from both powder inhalation and splashing of wet paint. Work in well ventilated areas.
Store unopened containers away from direct sunlight, between 40°F-85°F.  Patriot LimePaint can be stored indefinitely in its dry state in unopened containers.  Paint mixed with water should be used within 3 days.

Not for internal consumption. Keep out of the reach of children and animals.
