Virginia Lime Works Patriot Distemper

Our traditional Distempers are based on historic formulations and is the same bold and vibrant paint that is used in Virginia Lime Works's offices. A blend of the best hide glue, calcium carbonate, and pigment makes our Distemper an excellent choice for interior lime plastered walls. Virginia Lime Works PatriotDistemper also applies in just one coat!

Application Procedures
Virginia Lime Works Distemper is designed to be applied to historic and new lime plasters. Do not apply on over latex, oil based paints, wood, PVC, varnish, or shellac. Clean surface prior to application to remove dust, dirt, grime, grease, or any other coatings or materials that may prevent bonding. Surfaces MUST be dry prior to application. Working temperatures for Virginia Lime Works Distemper are between 45°F and 85°F. Virginia Lime Works Patriot Distemper is for interior use only. Depending on the suction of the plaster, it may be necessary to use one or two coats of a "clearcole" primer on surfaces to be painted.

Application of samples is recommended, and finishes should be evaluated prior to full scale application. Allow 24 hours of cure before determinations are made.

Protect all areas prior to application and ensure that the surfaces to be painted are completely dry.

Virginia Lime Works Distemper/Kalsomine is applied in one coat. Ensure that all windows and doors are closed to limit airflow in the room in which you’re working. Maintaining a wet edge, paint the wall surfaces using a wide synthetic bristle brush (i.e. Sherwin-Williams Deck & Siding Brush 4”-6”) and spread thoroughly coating the surface, applying in an up and down motion. If the “wet edge” dries, connections could be visible as the dry edges may appear darker. Virginia Lime Works Distemper/Kalsomine is a thick consistency, comparable to yogurt. Some brush strokes may be seen in the finished work and are normal. Once all the walls are coated, immediately open all doors and windows in the room to allow the paint to set. The room can then be closed again approximately 2 hours later or when all the walls look “dry”. Improper drying of the paint can cause the paint to look mottled and uneven. We do not recommend the re-painting with distempers without prepping the wall (removal of the distemper from the plasterwith warm water) and the reapplication of Virginia Lime Works Clearcole Primer.

Clean up
Clean tools, brushes and/or items with HOT or WARM water only. Cold water should not be used in cleaning.
