Virginia Lime Works is a small family owned and operated business in the heart of Virginia.  Our president, Jimmy Price is a bricklayer with over 30 years experience in commercial, residential, and historic masonry.  While performing the masonry restoration at Thomas Jefferson’s villa retreat Poplar Forest, Jimmy found himself at a loss.  How could he specialize in historic brickwork when he was making blends of modern materials for his historic mortar?  He set out to build a small wood fired lime kiln to produce traditional lime for mortars, plasters, and limewashes for historic preservation.  After much trial and error, he began making lime and began using it on his projects.  As more and more people found out about this, they began asking for a bucket of lime or two for their works.  From those humble beginnings Virginia Lime Works was born.

After a few years, we began importing Natural Hydraulic Limes and developed our “Mix&GO” range of pre-mixed lime mortars.  These mortars have found their way into many of the top restoration projects in the country, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Virginia State Capitol, Brown University, and even the White House.

Not only has lime always been a simple material, but it is also a very ecologically friendly material.  Virginia Lime Works has started developing products that make a lasting difference to not only our built environment, but our general environment as well.  But our approach to “green building” has been a little bit different.  We have set up to develop a range of products that anyone would love, but they happen to be good for our planet.  This has been our commitment to “Better Building…Naturally”.

We have many things in store for our future, and we hope that you will become a part of that.  Whether it’s the establishment of a permanent center for international craftsperson education or our “Enviro-Ment All Natural Mortars”, we are excited about the difference we have the opportunity to make.  And we are just getting started…
